Power of Words

Have you ever noticed how a few simple words can completely change your day? A kind compliment can make you smile, while a harsh comment can really hurt. That’s because our words, whether spoken aloud or thought in our minds, carry incredible power.
The Bible reminds us of this truth. Proverbs 12:18 says, "The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." Our words aren't just sounds; they are tools. We can choose to use them like "swords" that wound, or like "healing" balms that encourage and build up.
Consider the power of our words:
To Ourselves: What we tell ourselves matters. If we constantly think negative thoughts about our abilities or our worth, it can be really discouraging. But if we remind ourselves of God's love and our strengths, we can face challenges with more confidence.
To Others: Our words can strengthen friendships, comfort someone who is sad, or inspire someone to try their best. They can also, unfortunately, tear people down.
This week, let's be mindful of the amazing power God has given us through our words. Let's choose to speak life, kindness, and encouragement, just as Christ speaks to us.
Action Activity: The "Kindness Confetti" Challenge!
Here's a fun way to put the power of words into action this week:
Grab a few small slips of paper (or sticky notes).
Think of three people – a family member, a friend, a teacher, or even someone you don't know very well.
Write one kind, encouraging, or appreciative message for each person on a separate slip.
Examples: "You always make me laugh!" "Thanks for helping me with that project." "I appreciate how hard you work." "You're a great listener."
Find a way to share your "kindness confetti"! You can:
Hand it to them directly.
Leave it on their desk or locker.
Slip it into their backpack.
If it's for a family member, leave it on their pillow or next to their breakfast plate.
Let's shower our school and homes with positive words and see the difference it makes!
